Research Profiles

Hong Yao is now a Professor of Environmental Engineering with more than 10 years of research experience. She was first appointed as a Lecturer in Civil & Environmental Engineering into the School of Civil Engineering in 2003, promoted to Associate professor in 2005 and Professor of Civil Engineering in 2013. In 2016, She was appointed as head of department and administratively responsible for all students’ activities and the international cooperation between BJTU and Lancaster university. Since her appointment, She have strategically developed and managed an active research team, supported by excellent analytical (HPLC, GC, GC-MS, Flow injection, TOC, Microwave Digestion/ Extraction System and so on).

Her main fields of research interest include: 1. understanding the behavior of organic pollutants (such as POPs, PPCPs, N) in multi-media environment; He did the distribution, sources and ecological risk assessment of POPs along different water basins in China, such as Yangtze River, Yellow River. 2. the pollutant reduction technology (most recently, the use of anaerobic ammonium oxidation for the treatment of high concentrated organic and annomia wastewater, such as pharmaceutical wastewater, starch industry wastewater)

Output from these areas has led to the publication of over 50 journal and international conference papers in recent 5 years and I have a H-index of 8 (WoS) and 22.73 (RG Score). She is the Reviewer for Environmental Science and Technology, Water Research and so on.
